European Citizens’ Initiative: Ensuring a dignified reception of migrants in Europe

The European Commission has adopted a decision to register the European Citizens’ Initiative “Ensuring the reception of migrants with dignity in Europe”.

The main goal of the initiative is to provide effective solidarity between member states and ensure the accommodation of asylum seekers throughout the European Union.

The participants of the initial work for the adoption of mandatory standards in the European Union that ensure decent living conditions for asylum seekers, for example in terms of food, health, housing, education and work.

The foundation of European Citizen Initiative Institute was officially established in April 2012 with the Treaty of Lisbon.  The Institute enables at least one million citizens from seven European Union countries to submit proposals for the preparation of legal acts in the areas in which the European Commission has the authority to act.
